Su experiencia y conocimiento del territorio, le permite ofrecer destinos muy interesantes que despiertan el interés incluso en personas que habitualmente no viajan en grupo. Experiencia fantástica: Sono tornata la settimana scorsa dal tour in Siria, è stata un'esperienza indimenticabile, come già il mio precedente viaggio in Iraq con AtC. Il paese è pieno di storia, ma è una grande tristezza vedere come in 13 anni di guerra è stato conciato. La gente rimane comunque sempre gentile e piena di speranza . Il cibo è buonissimo!! Organizzazione, guida e autisti in loco perfetti. Compagni simpatici. Ma Oriol l'accompagnatore dalla Spagna ci ha reso il tutto ancora migliore. Alla prossima.

Experiencia fantástica: 16 April 2024 Took my 3rd ATC trip to Syria 24-31 March 2024. Trip was great. Leti and Muhamed were great. Tour group jelled well. All the tour sites we visited were good. Flexibility of scheduling was nice. Hotels were really good especially in Damascus. The dinner at Ayoub's family home was really special. Would highly recommend this for all your tours to have a meal at a local family's home. Timing for trip during Ramadan and Easter was special. Look forward to future trips with ATC. Experiencia fantástica: El viaje no puede ser un simple objeto de consumo, es siempre una experiencia de conocimiento y beneficio conjunto. El tour por el Kurdistán iraquí (en medio de una situación internacional bélica compleja), ha sido una fuente lúcida y esclarecedora de las realidades vitales que compartimos los seres humanos. Como docente y viajero sigo confirmando que la única vía para un mundo mejor es el conocimiento directo y la realidad compartida. Muchas gracias al grupo y especialmente a los guías Oriol y Brusk por hacer más fácil la conexión y el deleite vivencial con un fragmento de nuestro orbe.

Experiencia fantástica: In March 2024, I took my first group tour with Against The Compass to Syria. Accompanied by the knowledgeable guides Leticia and Mohammed, we explored the enchanting souqs, mosques, churches, and numerous historical landmarks in Syria, often having them all to ourselves. The timing of our visit to Damascus and Aleppo during Ramadan and Easter added an extra layer of significance, as we were treated to special events such as mesmerizing traditional whirling dervishes performances and solemn Easter processions, accompanied by religious chanting. This journey was very rewarding, offering a unique perspective on one of the most historically and culturally rich regions in the world. Additionally, the group comprised a diverse selection of fellow travelers, with stimulating discussions throughout the trip. I highly recommend traveling with Against the Compass for an enriching and unforgettable experience.

Experiencia fantástica: He realizado un viaje a Irak los primeros diez dias de marzo con esta agencia y he vuelto mucho mas que encantado. quiero agradecer especialmente a Oriol la atención y el cariño que me prestó. siempre atento a todo. La organización fue estupenda y todo funcionó como un reloj. Así da gusto viajar- Iba con un poco de temor por lo que me iba a encontrar en Irak, por las noticias que llegan desde allí. Vuelvo encantado y recomiendo el viaje, si lo haceis con esta compañía, mejor. Monumentos fantásticos, ciudades vibrantes y gente encantadora, máximo respeto, sin que nadie te agobie en los mercados. Experiencia fantástica: Excellent trip! I recently traveled with against the compass, for the first time and the trip exceeded all expectations. The company was professional in their organization as well as execution of the plan leading up to the tour. Different than other companies, Against the Compass Expeditions used fantastic local partners in their tour. Not only did this add significant knowledge and depth, but also a great sense of authenticity. I met great people on this tour that I will undoubtedly see in the future, two of which I have already traveled with in another country. The group was full of positive, like minded individuals that I was able to connect with. I am exited for future expeditions with the company, and highly recommend them to any adventurous traveler. A trip of a lifetime.

Experiencia fantástica: I travelled to Syria with Joan and 'Against the Compass' in September 2023. I feel so fortunate. I previously went to Syria in 2007 before the war and have wanted to go back to this amazing country ever since. The whole experience with Against the Compass was outstandingly and unforgettable. Joan has managed to create a perfect balance of: adventure, safety, group dynamics, and respect for the country and people. He sets high standards with great transport and some amazing hotels. I was not surprised to find that most of those on the Syrian trip seemed to have immediately booked up on another Against the Compass expedition the moment they got home. I too am now considering going to countries such as Afghanistan with Against the Compass that I would never have considered before.

Experiencia fantástica: Against the compass is the best tour guide to travel with. All the staff are there to answer the questions through email. Traveling with them really made me feel super comfortable.

Experiencia fantástica: El viaje a Mauritania ha sido una experiencia inolvidable. Nuestro guía de ATC Oriol una persona excelente siempre pendiente de todos. Nuestro guía local Baba un chico con una energía espectacular y muy buena organización. Es un país aún sin descubrir con gente muy tranquila y naturaleza que te deja sin habla. Sin duda volvería a repetir una y mil veces!

Experiencia fantástica: El viaje que hicimos en Mauritania fue maravilloso, no solo la experiencia en el tren de hierro que resultó épica, sino cada día que pasamos conociendo gente local, su cultura, sus comidas fue maravilloso. El equipo del guía español, el local, los choferes, el cocinero y el grupo que se formó, resultó magnífico en todos sus aspectos. A pesar que casi siempre viajo por mi cuenta, estoy repitiendo la experiencia con Against the Compass este año con un viaje a Eritrea.

Experiencia fantástica: Una experiència molt recomanable, m'ho vaig passar molt bé, el guia Mahdi de 10, en Joan ens va organitzar un tour privat per Irak, tot impecable, sent dues persones va resultar més car que en grup però tot i així realment va valdre la pena, repetirem segur, estem mirant el tour en grup a Afganistan pel pròxim octubre del 2024

Experiencia fantástica: Hay lugares que te marcan por impacto (paisaje, monumentos de historia imponente, una arquitectura sublime...) otros que lo hacen por algo más profundo, seguramente duradero, que tiene que ver con las personas que los habitan, con una energía difícil de definir... Puede que Irak entre en esa segunda categoría. He hecho la ruta por el país con Against the compass, de la mano de un equipo maravilloso - coordinado por Joan Torres, liderado en este caso por Leti Lagarda - propositivo, informado, puente perfecto entre el viajero y las gentes del lugar. De Bagdad al sur y del sur al norte, en continuo contraste, entre la espiritualidad de Kerbala, los ecos de Babilonia o Hatra, la belleza de Samarra, las dolorosas huellas de Mosul, el espacio suspendido de las Marismas o el glorioso caos de la capital. Ignorad la mala prensa, lanzaos a Mesopotamia.

Experiencia negativa: Yo mismo quise ir a siria con against the compass cuando no sabía tanto de viajes y cobraban muchísimo... Después averigüe que había agencias locales que hacían el mismo viaje. Fue muy sencillo contactar con un maravilloso guía local y me salió súper bien de precio. ( luego comparad por vosotros mismos la diferencia en precio) En iraq todavía más porque fuimos por libre. En mi opinión la gente debería de darse cuenta de los altos precios que pagan. El mismo creador de against the compass jamás iría en este tipo de grupos porque no estaría dispuesto a pagar tanto de más. Ahora bien si la gente está dispuesta a pagar el doble o el triple o incluso más perfecto, el problema es que yo creo que la gente no saben los precios reales por eso esta reseña. Ejemplo: para Yemen vi que cobraban 3700 euros en against, todas las agencias locales que he contactado cobran menos de 1700 en un viaje de 7-8 días para 6 personas( y eso que yemen sí es más caro que otros destinos). 2000 euros de diferencia!!!! Me sorprende el marketing y las reseñas cuando la gente paga 2000 euros por ir a Irak cuando es baratísimo y nosotros no pagamos más de 700 en EXCELENTES hoteles y restaurantes. La verdad es que es exagerado el negocio tan increíble q se ha montado cuando el mismo viaje lo puede hacer un local y así evitar intermediarios y regalar tanto dinero. Pd: acabo de venir de Mauritania 4 personas todo incluido con guía local: 400 euros cada uno 7 días, todo incluido Vs 1600 euros de against the compass. 4 veces más!!!! En fin... Este verano 2024 vamos a Afganistán 3 personas ya tengo guía por 500 dólares los 9 días ( entre 3 tocamos a 170 USD y luego alli es baratísimo...no vamos a gastar mas de 900 euros ni de coña... Con buenos hoteles- aviones...) Ahora echad un ojo al precio que pone against. Y así muchos países más, para mí es de locos pagar tantísimo más por lo mismo, incluso peor porque son grupos más grandes. Me parecía necesario avisar y poner en contexto al ver todo el marketing que hay detrás. Espero haber sido útil, lo siento por poner reseña negativa pero se necesita saber la verdad.

Experiencia fantástica: Estuve en el viaje a Irak de este mes de noviembre, viaje estupendo. Los guías, el tour leader, el transporte… Todo fue de 10, incluso el grupo, gente súper del buen rollo. El itinerario fue perfecto. Si bien visitamos muchas cosas, en ningún momento me sentí apresurada, creo que está todo muy bien optimizado, tal y como se comunica en la web de Against the Compass. Por otra parte también comentar que desde un primer momento, Joan fue súper comunicativo y respondió a todos los detalles y dudas. Sin duda repetiré con Against the Compass. Me estoy ya mirando la expedición que tienen para Pakistán en abril!

Experiencia fantástica: Mi viaje a Irak Federal ha sido mi primer viaje con ATC y mi primer viaje en grupo. Ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora. Leti, ha echo todo para que disfrutemos, ha estado todo el tiempo con nosotros incluso cuando se acababa el día, salíamos todos juntos a tomar algo. Los chicos guías también maravillosos. Todo perfecto. Nos han preparado alguna sorpresa y algun regalito. Hemos sido como una familia, viajando en un autocar supercomodo. Gracias Leti, Mahdi, Ali y los otros chicos, al chófer.... Ahora ya con ganas de mi próximo viaje con Against The Compass, sin duda.

No es una agencia corriente, en cada destino se preocupa por conectar con la población local aportando un contacto cercano que permite conocer la reciente historia del país. Experiencia fantástica: Going to Afghanistan with ATC was an unforgettable experience. So raw, authentic and surreal. Every place we went to visit, from Kabul to Herat, to Kandahar and Bamyan were just fascinating. You get to witness the chaotic bustle in the streets, the dry, arid desert landscape, some jaw-dropping mountain ranges and valleys, all in the same tour. The local guides were excellent as well. I would definitely recommend this tour and would go again with ATC.

El viaje ha sido muy enriquecedor tanto a nivel personal como de aprendizaje sobre Siria en sus diferentes niveles: social, cultural, político, turístico... Experiencia fantástica: Je suis partie en Syrie avec Against the Compass. J'ai l'habitude de beaucoup voyager, sans passer par une agence (je n'aime pas voyager en groupe). L'organisation de ce tour était irréprochable et notre guide a été l'un des meilleurs que je connaisse. Le groupe était limité à 6 personnes. Je repartirai très certainement avec Against the Compass : c'est l'agence idéale pour ceux qui veulent voyager hors des sentiers battus, rencontrer la population locale et comprendre l'histoire et la culture d'un pays.

Experiencia fantástica: Sono appena tornato di una settimana da sogno in Siria guidata da Joan. È stato l'abbinamento perfetto fra cultura, contatto con la popolazione locale e storia contemporanea. Se avessi avuto la possibilità di viaggiare per conto mio non avrei avuto modo di entrare in contatto con i locali, che in un momento storico come l'attuale sarebbe stato senz'altro una grande perdita. Durante tutto il viaggio Joan si è battuto affinché i diversi membri del gruppo ci sentissimo coinvolti e coesi, concedendo anche momenti di tempo libero. Non essendo abituato a viaggiare in gruppo per me questo è stato un punto fondamentale. Inoltre, la scelta degli alberghi e dei posti da mangiare è stata ottima. Perfect organization, individual needs of all participants was taken care of really well and the itinerary was just perfectly balanced. Experiencia fantástica: I have been following Against the Compass since it was only a travel blog, and it always felt like Joan knows what I want in my travels. After joining the Marmarita expedition, I can say that it still feels like that. Leti Lagarda was the guide for the tour and did an amazing job, the group was fun and enthousiastic, and the whole trip was just perfectly designed.

Experiencia fantástica: Just returned from the Syrian November tour which has left me with more questions than before but certainly a deeper understanding of the country, the people and of course the crisis. This is as much down to the unbiased and open tour team as to the actual Syrian experience itself. Against the Compass provides the opportunity to immerse yourself in the country and its culture. Highlights for me were Damascus, Aleppo and Palmyra. The quality of the tour leader Leti was outstanding, blending a relaxed and pleasant attitude with excellent organisation. The local tour guide was amazing, suffering days of questioning and challenges to his outlook without ever losing his calm and balanced manner. We travelled many kilometers by bus without the slightest issue, the driver Isam always looking out for the group and making the journeys safe and comfortable. Add the really great accommodation - the hotel in Damascus is beautiful - and the great food. I cannot recommend this trip and the Against the Compass team enough.

Experiencia fantástica: Just back from a week’s trip to Syria with Against the Compass (Sept 2022). As a dedicated solo traveller, I have to admit I was a little wary of travelling in a group. But Joan, I think, was aware of this fact as he brought together a brilliant bunch of well-explored, like-minded, independent travellers. We did our introductions in the WhatsApp group Joan created, and shared arrival info in Lebanon and tips for Beirut. In person we quickly bonded, then before long were getting on like a house on fire! Leti, our Against the Compass Tour Leader, confidently led the way. She remained energised, (despite the long drives), yet calm and collected throughout all our checkpoints and immigration queues. The itinerary was perfect. We visited all the key sights, plus extra hidden gems – like an intriguing little Shia shrine in Aleppo souk. Our local guide was fantastic, fielding constant questions and making sure we weren’t thirsty, hungry or too tired. Not to mention our heroic driver! There was also a bit of time for some independent exploring. At the end we were all so sad to leave. Genuinely looking forward to my next Against the Compass trip.

Everything was coordinated beautifully making the trip memorable and the experience very unique. I look forward to exploring more off the beaten places with ATC in the near future!

Experiencia fantástica: I most recently joined ATC's first expedition to Mauritania this year and let me tell -- it was amazing! They worked along side T'Ore Mauritania and I did not have to worry about a single thing. The tour leaders were Oriol (ATC) and Baba (T'Ore). These two guys made sure everything and everyone was taken care of. They really went out of their way to ensure that every part of the tour went seamless. Oriol is a very great resource as well for all things travel. In booking the tour, I felt ATC effectively communicated everything. There were no hiccups or surprises along the way. I literally check the ATC website everyday to see if there is another tour to join!

Experiencia fantástica: I joined Against the Compass for their Mauritania Expedition. It was well planned and well paced. Despite being a relatively obscure travel destination, I felt safe and well taken care for. The trip was on the adventurous side and brought many unique experiences.

Experiencia fantástica: Nosotros no participamos en una de las expediciones en grupo que Joan tiene programadas, pero Joan nos organizó un tour privado de 7 días por Irak Federal. Éramos 4 personas, más el guía y nuestro conductor. Todo fue perfecto. Si bien nuestro inglés es muy básico y a menudo echábamos en falta alguien como Joan para liderar el tour, la verdad es que la ruta estaba tan estudiada que no podría haber ido mejor. Nos encantó. De guía nos tocó Mahdi, que es un chaval muy joven, pero ultra motivado y normalmente el guía que también acompaña sus expediciones de grupo. un viaje de 10. Repetiría pero me gustaría probar una de las de grupo lideradas por Joan o Leti, que también he oído que es una máquina.

Experiencia fantástica: Precioso viaje por Siria con Against the compass, Joan me tuvo informado en todo momento de todas mis dudas, el viaje en si fue maravilloso, la mezcla de cultura oriental y la cercanía del pueblo Sirio es bestial, un viaje distinto a los habituales y perfectamente comandado por Leti Lagarda,nuestra guia es una Crak. Por cierto, el hotel de Damasco es de ensueño.

Experiencia fantástica: Suelo viajar solo, no obstante hay sitios en los que definitivamente no se puede, como lo es el caso de Siria, viajé con la agencia en octubre 2022 y la expedición fue impecable, la guía en español (Lety) y el guía local (Munir) unas finísimas personas, atentos en todo momento a las necesidades del grupo. Planeado y ejecutado con sumo cuidado cada detalle del viaje. Desde luego, no dudaría en contratar de nueva cuenta con ellos.

Experiencia fantástica: El novembre passat vaig poder conéixer el Kurdistan iraquià de la mà d'Against de Compass (Joan Torres). Un destí que, d'entrada pot espantar però que la professionalitat de Joan (i el seu "alter ego" kurd Karwan) va fer que el viatge fós espectacular. No deixeu passar la ocasió d'apuntar-vos a les propostes atrevides que ens fa en Joan i Against de Compass. No defrauden.

Experiencia fantástica: El viaje a Siria con Joan ha sido muy especial. No es un tour al uso. Sus conocimientos del pais, lugares a visitar y la calidad humana que le da al viaje,dando prioridad al contacto con la gente local, definitivamente lo diferencia de otros tours. No sé cual es su fórmula, pero entre gente tan diversa dentro del grupo, consigue que surja ese buen rollo que haga que hayamos disfrutado tanto. Experiencia fantástica: Joan Torres with Against the Compass is an absolute gift. We prefer to travel independently, but due to safety concerns surrounding Iraqi Kurdistan, we decided to join Joan on his expedition. We could not be happier with this decision. Joan and his fabulous Kurdish guide, Karwan Wahed, took care of us every step of the way. Joan and Karwan were extremely quick to respond to all questions even before the trip began (in fact, I wonder if Joan ever sleeps). They organized a seamless arrival and departure despite covid restrictions, snowstorms, and even a missile attack. We saw many highlights of this fascinating region, complete with detailed history and current information, comfortable transportation and great accommodations. The itinerary was extensive but paced well, and included two exciting local celebrations we would not have known about ourselves. More importantly, we experienced one-of-a-kind interactions with the local people that we also would not have been able to arrange on our own. We were able to spend the day on a farm with nomadic Kurds, and Karwan invited us to a special dinner with his family, cooked by his wife, in his home. Joan and Karwan went above and beyond the call of duty to honor our requests, such as finding stamps for our son’s collection. Even when challenges arose, Joan and Karwan were able to work around any obstacles with calm and good humor, and came up with great “plan Bs.” We really enjoyed getting to know Karwan, with his unique in-depth perspective and hilarious sense of humor, and Joan, a delightful man with an absolute wealth of travel information, as well as the other travelers on the tour. We had so much fun as a group and came away with lifelong friends. Even better, all this incredible knowledge and experience was offered with an affordable price tag. Don’t hesitate to join Joan on one of his trips. It will be the best decision you ever made!

Experiencia fantástica: Against the Compass is standing out as a unigue travel experience.Torres is a powerhouse and he has got a magical touch when it comes to finding the mindblowing places on his tours. Perhaps his 1. Priority is for us is to meet and talk to people and communities. Politicians, warlords, priests, nuns etc. A leader from the marsh arabs, visiting his home. A nunnery where the nuns had a cruel encounter with ISIS and talking to dancing dervishes. You get quite another insight in the country, which is difficult if not impossible travelling with other companies or travelling alone. You could not get the security arrangements without local contact. You would not be allowed to visit Palmyra. Did I mention the highly qualified guides? Experiencia fantástica: I joined the trip to Syria lead by Joan Torres, and we had a real blast. The trip was not only amazingly planned, with great restaurants and accommodation options, but Joan really knows his way around the country, in the way that he is very knowledgeable and professional. So far, this is the best tour I have ever been to, and I will definitely join another Against the Compass expedition!

Para mi sorpresa he disfrutado muchísimo, se ha juntado un grupo de gente con muchos viajes a la espalda y eso hace que todo sea más fácil y la convivencia ha sido estupenda. At 64 years old, it was the first group trip of my life. Honestly I had my reservations, but entering Syria independently is impossible. To my surprise I have enjoyed it very much, a group of people with many trips behind them has come together and that makes everything easier and the coexistence has been great. Joan has organized a spectacular trip, spectacular for the different places we have visited and so special. Los grupos están llenos de viajeros intrépidos y con gran experiencia internacional, tienen cantidad de historias para contar durante los desplazamientos.
