Walking Holidays in Spain

Experiencia fantástica: Sometimes going back to an area you have really liked is a bad idea - it doesn't live up to your memories. We had no such worries with our second holiday with Erik. It was better than the first. Wanting to get away from the gloom of a British winter we did his Moorish Villages trek last year (2015). We enjoyed it so much that we went back this year and did the Marina Alta trek in bright sunshine, under blue skies and with temperatures in the twenties. It was a feast for the eyes from huge vistas of mountain scenery to the delight of vibrant mountain flowers. It was a feast for the ears from orchards full of birdsong and the buzzing of bees to listening to complete silence. Our noses were assailed with the scent of rosemary as we brushed past the bushes and thyme as we crushed the plants under foot. The birds and butterflies were amazing. What we particularly like about Erik's holidays is that they are all inclusive. Other than lunch each day, everything is paid for: pick-up and drop off at beginning and end; all evening meals; and all accommodation - some a bit quirky, all excellent. We also like the system he uses of giving walkers maps, route print out and notes, and a GPS. You know that you are on the right route from the GPS, but you can see the wider landscape that you are walking through from the map. Looking forward to another holiday with 'Walking Holidays in Spain' next year.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic week staying in Tarbena. It was lovely to be met at the airport and have all walks planned for us. Erik is extremely welcoming and his local knowledge means that you can enjoy a variety of walks all with stunning views. He is very flexible in terms of which walks you do when and indeed is happy to provide more challenging routes should you wish them. The GPS was easy to use and essential as otherwise it would be easy to miss a turn. We stayed in as tunel, which is a very well equipped cottage right in the centre of the village. The terrace has a fantastic view down the valley and is a lovely sun trap in the mornings. We would definitely recommend this holiday.

Experiencia fantástica: In mid-October, my husband and I (age 61) hiked the 'Moorish Village' trek organized by Erik. The scenery was spectacular. The routes were easy to follow as long as we stayed 'on the purple', the color of the route on the GPS device Erik provided. Each night, we stayed in a different village - in guesthouses, B&Bs, small inns - and met lovely people at each one. The food each inn prepared for us was fantastic - breakfasts and dinners were included in the fee and we paid the our hosts to send us off with picnic lunches. Our hikes were from 10 to 15 miles / day over moderate/challenging terrain. We finished our trek in Tarbena - Erik's home village and spent 2 days enjoying the town and local day hikes. Erik's hospitality is outstanding. Definitely worth checking it out!

Experiencia fantástica: In May 2016 my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the self-guided walking holiday based in Tàrbena. Erik was incredibly friendly and helpful, allowing us to choose from a selection of walks of varying length and difficulty from day to day. His knowledge and passion about the local area really added to the experience. The scenery, both in Tàrbena and the surrounding countryside was breath taking and the village had a great selection of restaurants to choose from. The walks were interesting, covered variable terrain and were easily navigable due to the GPS system provided. For a very relaxing time, in a truly undiscovered area with perfect weather and beautiful surroundings, I cannot rate this holiday highly enough.

Experiencia fantástica: We liked this area for walking so much that we have been 3 times in February for winter sun, staying in Tarbena, walking the beautiful terraced hills full of flowering almond and olives. Although within sight of the coast and Benidorm it is quiet and undisturbed, the only sounds being bees buzzing in the rosemary bushes and birdsong. Accommodation is comfortable and clean and Erik provides just the level of support you need to make the holiday stress free, providing detailed route maps and GPS for when you might miss a path while admiring the spectacular scenery.

Experiencia fantástica: Erik at Walking Holidays in Spain organised my recent trip to Alicante and I can totally recommend their services. I am a single traveller with almost no Spanish so walking in a rural area could have been daunting. Everything went according to plan with luggage transfers, walking routes, meals and weather. If you fancy a walking holiday in an area that few tourists get to visit then give these a try.
