Experiencia fantástica: Great experience. Came for a cruise, ended up coming back for a Yacht Master Offshore and had a blast all the way.

Experiencia positiva: I was disappointed to have an old boat, not in its best condition, but mostly, with a furling mast. We could not practice reefing and also barely touched paper charts. If you want to have a sailing holiday with nice weather conditions this is your place, I could also recommend it for competent crew and people who are new into sailing. If you are more serious about sailing I would recommend to look elsewhere.

Experiencia negativa: I hope this review will help you to make an informed decision wether or not to do business with Canary Sail. Context We had not sailed before and decided to do a “Fast Track Program”. We thought this would give us as much sailing experience as possible. All our considerations were part of multiple conversations with the owner of Canary Sail. He appeared to be a nice and friendly person. We discussed a potential drop out in case we weren’t able to finish the training. Jim assured that he has experience with Fast Track students and always finds a good solution for both parties. Business Operations & Customer Care The company office comprises 1 shipping container, and 2 storage containers which look run down and shady. The school doesn’t have an arrival area. Clients had find somewhere to hang out with their luggage until onboarding started at 5PM. Onboarding, managed by the owners partner, was chaotic and unorganized. The lady always made a stressed out impression, acted brush and unfriendly. Maintenance, Yachts & Functionality We experienced major issued with sailing yachts and equipment almost every week, here a few examples: - Sailing Yacht Alfados (Cruising Boat) Corrosive tube was leaking during previous week but wasn’t fixed. Tube broke during our cruise week and had been fixed inappropriately by the skipper, skipper did not check the correct function of the tube which resulted in 64L diesel leaking into the boat. - Sailing Yacht Papoa (Course Boat) Batteries went low after 1 1/2 h of sailing, which resulted in continued motor sailing (despite wind) to make sure navigation equipment and depth sounder would work properly. - Sailing Yacht Alfados (Cruising Boat) Automatic inflation cylinder of the life vests were not screwed into the release fixture equipment and just put in the life vest pockets. Issues we faced were mostly results of lack of maintenance and/or technical knowledge/overexhausted and/or not replaced equipment. Course Weeks Apart from issues with the boats, we enjoyed course weeks. All trainers were excellent and work self-employed. Cruise Weeks were part of the programme and sold as „practical training”. Knowledge acquired during course weeks would be taken into practice while accumulating the needed miles for the YM Off-Shore Certification. In reality, 7 people were put on a boat, getting to helm every 6h during a 10h trip. The rest of the time you would sit uncomfortably in the cockpit, or below deck when sea state allowed. We would usually do a 2h safety brief, and then start sailing w/o proper briefing on sea conditions, potentially serious situations, duration, marina facilities, or preparation of food. After Sales We decided to cancel the remaining weeks after 10 month of constant mismatch between agreed deliverables and the disappointing reality week after week. We discussed the situation several times with the owner without considerable changes. Only after he was forced to agree that the short comings lie with him, he agreed to refund one cruise week fee. He also finally agreed to refund money for unfinished courses/cruises as soon as he fills up „our” spots. Back home, the owner attempted to blackmail us by forcing us to keep silent about our experience. This made us think about why Canary Sail has only very good Google ratings Summary When you learn sth new, you would hope for a company that is truly engaged, supportive and helpful. Canary Sail and his company have proven over 10 weeks that they are not this type of partner. They are neither honest nor transparent. They are simply trying to make profit and don’t care about customer experience or safety. Our experience with Canary Sail diminished our enthusiasm and fascination for sailing until this very moment.

Experiencia fantástica: Great week away with Canary Sail. Jungle taught us well and the four of us came away with out day skipper qualifications! Jim and Joy and the whole team were really engaging and we could see the passion they have for the teaching of sailing! We saw dolphins, Pilot Wales and even a brief glimpse of a huge turtle! Great job guys!

Experiencia fantástica: Had a really great week of Competent Crew training with Canary Sail, had never stepped on a yacht before and they were great every step of the way, I learned so much! Thanks again to everyone there!

Experiencia fantástica: What a wonderful week! Jim and Joy arranged a bareboat charter for my wife and I, and we had a superb time. The boat was lovely, everyone on the team super friendly and helpful (in particular Choko, who was happy to offer advice on the best marinas etc). We were lucky enough to see whales and dolphins throughout the week playing with the boat -magical! Thank you Jim and Joy - we will be back!
